Publication Geomorphology in Archaeology(1998) ;Norman HerzErvan G. GarrisonGeomorphology is the study of the evolution of landforms. Analysis of surficial deposits provides much of the evidence for changes in landforms over time. These deposits may be residual materials, formed in place by weathering of underlying formations, or may have been formed elsewhere and then transported by wind, water, or humans to their present site of deposition. They include both sediments and soils, which are commonly confused in the field although each originates by different processes and each yields different kinds of information. Both geomorphology and surficial deposits are the principal subjects of several other publications and will not be covered in great detail here. This book aims to cover in more detail fields that are universally acknowledged to be important for archaeology but are generally ignored in the "geoarchaeology" literature. Those seeking more information on geomorphology and surficial deposits should refer to other publications. The kind and amount of surficial materials change with the changing land surface and climatic conditions and so offer the best evidence regarding the evolution of the landscape. An understanding of these changes on a site will allow a re-creation of the paleoenvironment at the time of occupation and a modeling of the prehistoric land-use patterns. Archaeological exploration in an area is facilitated by first pinpointing desirable habitation sites of the time and then targeting these sites for geophysical prospecting. After a site has been discovered, geophysical and geomorphic-sedimentologic information can help develop excavation strategies. Such information commonly allows a better idea of the distribution and nature of buried artifacts and may explain anomalous surficial redistribution of artifacts, for example, by downslope wash or sediment burial. The first study in a new area proposed for any detailed archaeological work should be geomorphic-surficial geology. It can be carried out in three distinct phases:1. Geomorphic mapping affords meaningful descriptions of the landforms, drainage patterns, surficial deposits, tectonic features, and any active geomorphological processes. 2. The erosional processes that carved the landforms—including soil formation, sediment removal or deposition, and tectonic uplift—are documented.

Publication DSpace administration issues: the community admin patch(2005); Donohue, TimA large or medium repository, but also a small repository in some special cases, needs to allow a more decentralized management of administrative activities as: creation of new communities, creation of new collections, management of submitter and workflow groups, editing of published items, access policies and so on. Until now, DSpace allows only a partial decentralization of this functionalities thought into the role of COLLECTION ADMIN. After highlighting these needs, we will introduce the new role of COMMUNITY ADMIN and the changes made to the COLLECTION ADMIN role by our patch so to fix most of the previous needs. We will talk about the "long history" of this patch, made for the first time by Andrea against the 1.2 series and next kept updated, bug free and XMLUI aware by Tim from the 1.4 series. This "pass the buck", from Andrea to Tim and again together with some other people, shows how useful is for anyone to share results, experiences and customizations with the community so to get them back improved, reducing the cost of locale maintenance, debug and bug fix. We will close the presentation with the good news of the inclusion of this patch in the DSpace codebase for both XMLUI and JSPUI interfaces and also giving some notices about possible improvements in the next future. Publication DSpace Hibernate-Prototype(2008-04-01); Ninfo, DanieleThis article shows the reengineering of the persistence tier of the open source software DSpace, to introduce a lower coupling in its software layers. The prototype was made using design patterns and standards from J2EE world: Domain Store, Session Façade, Application Service, JPA were also introduced for a technological upgrade of the platform. The research and development activity aimed at this goal was accomplished in a stage offered by CILEA to achieve a degree in Computer Science Engineering, an opportunity that CILEA offers on several innovative ICT themes, with the support of its experts.1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication DSpace-CRIS@HKU: Achieving Visibility with a CERIF Compliant Open Source System(2014-07-02); ;Mennielli, MicheleAbstract The CRIS now at the University of Hong Kong, “HKU Scholars Hub” (the Hub), began as a means to provide visibility to HKU research, people, and their expertise. It now also acts as a tool for management, evaluation and visualization of HKU research. The expected addition of CERIF compliancy to DSpace-CRIS in May 2014, will further enhance the Hub's utility for visibility, collaboration, and benchmarking.Scopus© Citations 6WOS© Citations 5 3 37 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Publication New functionalities of the euroCRIS' DSpace-CRIS Repository(2016)The euroCRIS' Repository is based on a DSpace-CRIS installation to support the collection and management of different contents related to the Organisation's activities. The project has started in 2015 mainly focusing on the papers and presentations submitted by euroCRIS' Members for the events but always managing the publications information in a proper CERIF way with people, events and orgunits interlinked to provide rich information. All the past contributions have been added to the system and linked to the different authors, providing also the opportunity to link the Repository to the authors' ORCID profiles.12 16 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
