    Digital Libraries and Cybersecurity: a service provider's approach
    (2025)
    ;
    Raileanu, Alexandru
    ;
    Digital Libraries have become essential resources in today's world, providing users with access to a variety of information, research materials, and cultural heritage. They come with several benefits, like improved accessibility, convenience, and the chance to collaborate across geographical boundaries. However, as their significance grows, they also attract the attention of malicious actors, leading, even in this domain, to a range of Cybersecurity challenges that need careful consideration. That's why adopting a proactive and flexible approach to Cybersecurity is crucial to tackle these threats and safeguard the availability and integrity of Digital Libraries resources. In this context, collaboration between institutions and service providers is fundamental to implement effective Cybersecurity policies. Therefore, the paper, starting with an overview of the relationship between Digital Libraries and Cybersecurity, moves on to the approach to Cybersecurity provided by 4Science for its hosted services based on DSpace, the most used open-source Digital Asset Management System in the world.

    A flexible and extensible data model to enhance the relationships between digital objects and a framework to share and compare images also coming from different repositories, these are the tools provided by the DSpace-GLAM open source platform that the Milan Conservatory is using to make its Digital Library a fundamental tool for music and musicological studies. The presentation highlights how Conservatory’s scholars took advantage of DSpace-GLAM features to build a “cultural galaxy”, comprising a vast set of different types of musical bibliographic resources linked and made explorable by means of their relationships and of the International Interoperability Framework (IIIF) to share and analyse thoroughly all the components of such galaxy.

    The EOSC DIH "ELD Advance" project

    The poster will provide an overview of the ELD ADVANCE project supported by the European Open Science Cloud Digital Innovation HUB (EOSC DIH). In spring 2021, as part of the OpenAIRE ELD project 4Science released two new services: the Data Correction (based on the OpenAIRE Notification Broker), to enrich repository data by exploiting the vast amount of information made available by OpenAIRE, and the Publication Claim (based on the OpenAIRE Graph), to ensure that the repository stays up to date by automatically discovering new content produced by the institution’s researchers in the OpenAIRE Graph, thus reducing the manual input from researchers. This new project aims to achieve full impact extending these services to plain DSpace repositories making them available out-of-box in the latest releases of DSpace as it was already done in DSpace-CRIS. Moreover, additional technical improvements will be introduced to streamline the adoption and set the basis for future extensions of the services.

    <b>OpenAIRE Content Providers Community Call</b>, March 3rd, 2021. The main topic of this call was on the results from the "Enrich Local Data via the OpenAIRE Graph" Project: Bring Innovation to DSpace. Specifically it was about the integration of the Broker service in DSpace CRIS and DSpace7, developed by 4Science as a result of the Open Innovation Call promoted by OpenAIRE. Was also presented an overview about the Broker service API. Was also an opportunity to share the most recent updates and novelties in the OpenAIRE Content Provider Dashboard, and to get feedback from community. <a href="https://youtu.be/ERtLOVhDZb0">Recordings<span class="fa fa-file-video" style="font-size: larger;font-weight: bold;"></span></a> <p>Follow the <a href="https://www.openaire.eu/provide-community-calls" target=_blank">Community activities</a>

    Regional Research Portal UnityFVG: an OpenScience portal
    (2018)

    The three Universities decided to provide a single point of access to their institutional outputs under a new Regional Research Portal called: “UnityFVG - Ricerca Friuli Venezia Giulia”. The Portal will be a web gateway for searching and spreading the research data created by the SISSA, University of Trieste and University of Udine. The portal is also an open access repository that allows access without restrictions to the results of the activities financed by public funds. The UnityFVG Research Portal is based on DSpace-CRIS solution and use the CERIF-XML over OAI-PMH format for harvesting the main entities (People, Organizations, Publications) from the Institutional Repositories (IRIS based) of the member Institutions. Technical support was provided for the first pilot installation by Cineca, the Consortium of Italian Universities where DSpace-CRIS was adopted after the merge with Cilea. After the first year of test and pilot installation, the Regional Research Portal went definitively in production and registered online in the Open Access Week 2017 as http://research.unityfvg.it/. With the technical support of 4Science is now harvesting the data on weekly basis.

    DSpace 7 - Enhanced Submission & Workflow
    (2019-11-26)
    ;
    ;
    The last two years have been very intense for the DSpace community. A great effort has been put into finalizing the development of a DSpace release, 7.0, which has many changes from previous releases, particularly with regard to UI technology. As part of the activities related to the creation of DSpace 7, particularly innovative is the submission and workflow process that can be associated with the different collections. The presentation will provide a deep dive into the new Enhanced Submission and Workflow features of DSpace 7, including how to configure, customize &amp; use this feature (and differences with DSpace 6 and below)

    New functionalities of the euroCRIS' DSpace-CRIS Repository
    (2016)
    The euroCRIS' Repository is based on a DSpace-CRIS installation to support the collection and management of different contents related to the Organisation's activities. The project has started in 2015 mainly focusing on the papers and presentations submitted by euroCRIS' Members for the events but always managing the publications information in a proper CERIF way with people, events and orgunits interlinked to provide rich information. All the past contributions have been added to the system and linked to the different authors, providing also the opportunity to link the Repository to the authors' ORCID profiles.
