Digital Libraries and Cybersecurity: a service provider's approach
(2025)
;
Raileanu, Alexandru
;
Digital Libraries have become essential resources in today's world, providing users with access to a variety of information, research materials, and cultural heritage. They come with several benefits, like improved accessibility, convenience, and the chance to collaborate across geographical boundaries. However, as their significance grows, they also attract the attention of malicious actors, leading, even in this domain, to a range of Cybersecurity challenges that need careful consideration. That's why adopting a proactive and flexible approach to Cybersecurity is crucial to tackle these threats and safeguard the availability and integrity of Digital Libraries resources. In this context, collaboration between institutions and service providers is fundamental to implement effective Cybersecurity policies. Therefore, the paper, starting with an overview of the relationship between Digital Libraries and Cybersecurity, moves on to the approach to Cybersecurity provided by 4Science for its hosted services based on DSpace, the most used open-source Digital Asset Management System in the world.

A flexible and extensible data model to enhance the relationships between digital objects and a framework to share and compare images also coming from different repositories, these are the tools provided by the DSpace-GLAM open source platform that the Milan Conservatory is using to make its Digital Library a fundamental tool for music and musicological studies. The presentation highlights how Conservatory’s scholars took advantage of DSpace-GLAM features to build a “cultural galaxy”, comprising a vast set of different types of musical bibliographic resources linked and made explorable by means of their relationships and of the International Interoperability Framework (IIIF) to share and analyse thoroughly all the components of such galaxy.

DSpace. The article investigated the concept of «institutional repository» and determined the aspects of institutional repositories in higher education. Institutional Repositories are information systems that allow preserving, storing and disseminating scientific knowledge produced in higher education and scientific research institutions. This study presented the main aspects using institutional repositories in educational process (such as storage of scientific and educational information, means of organization activity of students, object of studying). This article produced the structure of communities and collections of the institutional. It is described the experience of implementing of DSpace in the learning process.

The National Bibliography Number Italia (NBN:IT) Project. A persistent identifier supporting national legal deposit
(2013-01-01)
The association of a Persistent Identifier to a digital resource is a best practice helping in solving a reliable information resources retrieving on the web. At the present moment, different kind of technologies and standards such as DOI, Handle are establishing. However, within scientific and cultural communities, the main need is still focused on ensuring resources authenticity, provenance, and preservation in the long term period. For this reason, a third authoritative party such as the National Library is necessary, managing identifiers and process requirements for preservation aims. The NationalBibliographyNumber originated in the context of the role and the responsibilities of national libraries in the field of universal bibliographic control, oriented to the identification of resources to be preserved in the long period. In Italy NBN:IT is going to be linked to the legal deposit, and activity traditionally up to the national libraries guaranteeing its trustability. The project, coordinated by the national libraries of Florence, Rome, and Venice, by the Foundation Rinascimento Digitale and by the Conference of Rectors of the Italian Universities, completes the current offer of PI. Today we have assigned almost 10.000 NBN:IT. Plugins for the main repository software as DSpace, Eprints, Ojs were released.

The EOSC DIH "ELD Advance" project

The poster will provide an overview of the ELD ADVANCE project supported by the European Open Science Cloud Digital Innovation HUB (EOSC DIH). In spring 2021, as part of the OpenAIRE ELD project 4Science released two new services: the Data Correction (based on the OpenAIRE Notification Broker), to enrich repository data by exploiting the vast amount of information made available by OpenAIRE, and the Publication Claim (based on the OpenAIRE Graph), to ensure that the repository stays up to date by automatically discovering new content produced by the institution’s researchers in the OpenAIRE Graph, thus reducing the manual input from researchers. This new project aims to achieve full impact extending these services to plain DSpace repositories making them available out-of-box in the latest releases of DSpace as it was already done in DSpace-CRIS. Moreover, additional technical improvements will be introduced to streamline the adoption and set the basis for future extensions of the services.

OpenAIRE Content Providers Community Call, March 3rd, 2021. The main topic of this call was on the results from the "Enrich Local Data via the OpenAIRE Graph" Project: Bring Innovation to DSpace. Specifically it was about the integration of the Broker service in DSpace CRIS and DSpace7, developed by 4Science as a result of the Open Innovation Call promoted by OpenAIRE. Was also presented an overview about the Broker service API. Was also an opportunity to share the most recent updates and novelties in the OpenAIRE Content Provider Dashboard, and to get feedback from community. Recordings
Follow the <a href="https://www.openaire.eu/provide-community-calls" target=_blank">Community activities
