    New functionalities of the euroCRIS' DSpace-CRIS Repository
    (2016)
    The euroCRIS' Repository is based on a DSpace-CRIS installation to support the collection and management of different contents related to the Organisation's activities. The project has started in 2015 mainly focusing on the papers and presentations submitted by euroCRIS' Members for the events but always managing the publications information in a proper CERIF way with people, events and orgunits interlinked to provide rich information. All the past contributions have been added to the system and linked to the different authors, providing also the opportunity to link the Repository to the authors' ORCID profiles.

    PathGraph: querying and exploring big data graphs

    With the widespread diffusion of social networks and the dawn of data-intensive scientific applications, graphs became one of the foundations for modern data management applications. A key role in graph querying and analysis is played by Regular Path Queries, their extensions, and, in particular, GXPath. In this demo we will present PathGraph, a distributed GXPath query processor, and its web-based graphical interface.

    'They have whole worlds inside of them': a brief journey into the practice of book gift giving through history

    This article analyses the practice of giving books as gifts through history, in Europe. It starts from the book as a ‘gift of power’ in the Merovingian and Carolingian time, going through the presenting of books amongst scholars as signs of friendship and professional appreciation, the book as ‘public gift’, and the emergence of the early nineteenth-century genre of ‘gift books’, to eventually reach the present days and the dispute between eBooks and physical books in gifting habits peculiar to the period. Wealth, symbolism, the ability to convey messages: different aspects are taken into consideration, to try and give reason of why books have always been considered so appropriate for gifting.

    Regional Portal FVG: Effective Interoperability Through DSpace-CRIS and Open Standards

Friuli-VeneziaGiulia (FVG) Regional Scientific System includes three Public Research Institutions, three Universities, four International Institutions, four Technological Parks in FVG region in North-East Italy. In 2014 the three Universities started to cooperate for a common research output inside a project named UnityFVG: United Universities-FVG. They already have 10 years experience in OA with four Institutional Repositories (DSpace/DSpace-CRIS based) and more than 100,000 Research Publications. So they decided to provide a single point of access under a new Regional Research Portal based on DSpace-CRIS. The project, with the technical support of Cineca consortium, offers a great opportunity to improve the interoperability of DSpace-CRIS based solutions. The European standard for the research domain, CERIF, is the best option to drive rich information to the portal in a standard and reusable way. A plugin/patch for DSpace will be freely available to enable data export using CERIF-XML over OAI-PMH. CERIF-XML will be available for all the main entities (People, Projects, Organizations, Journals, Conferences, Dataset, Publications and metrics). The DSpace OAI-PMH harvester will be extended to support ingestion of complex, interconnected information as provided by the CERIF-XML format. This will enable content replication between DSpace-CRIS instances and easy setup of public OA oriented portals.

    DSpace-CRIS@HKU: Achieving Visibility with a CERIF Compliant Open Source System

    Abstract The CRIS now at the University of Hong Kong, “HKU Scholars Hub” (the Hub), began as a means to provide visibility to HKU research, people, and their expertise. It now also acts as a tool for management, evaluation and visualization of HKU research. The expected addition of CERIF compliancy to DSpace-CRIS in May 2014, will further enhance the Hub's utility for visibility, collaboration, and benchmarking.
